Aberdeenshire Autumn Workshop

The Aberdeenshire Autumn workshop with Mark will be at Fetternear Hall 21st - 24th October, followed by 121s with Mark.  There will be more details nearer the time: please let Paolo know if you want to book a 121.

Dates for the summer workshop in London are expected to be confirmed soon.

London class news, Aberdeenshire and calendars

London Classes with Mark have resumed this week. We go through until Easter. Holiday dates TBC. I will post all the workshop dates on this blog in February.

Thanks to all for a great weekend, Wishing Alistair a speedy recovery too. There are a couple of nice pics form the weekend and I will add them on Thursday when I empty my phone.

Sorry for the duplicate picture in March and August in the calendar this year. I will print the one that was meant to be there and hand it round soon :)

Thought it was all checked and perfect, but print websites move in mysterious ways. Never mind, it's a lovely photo anyway, and as someone said this weekend, they'll have forgotten the march one by August...

Turriff class term dates

The new term at Turriff starts next Monday, 13th January at the Baden Powell Community Hall.

The Short Form class is 6:45-8:15pm and the standard price is £50 for 6 weeks. Concession or weekly prices are available on request. The Long Form class continues until 8:45pm for a small additional cost.

The class is not currently open to beginners. If you have previous T'ai Chi experience and would like to join or re-join the class to study Short Form or Long Form, please get in touch with me to discuss suitability. email davina [at] greatrivertaichi [dot] co [dot] uk

The term will run until 29th June with a break on 6th & 13th April for the Easter holidays. There will also be no class on 4th May.

No Turriff class this week

Just a reminder there is no class at Turriff this week, 21st October. We'll restart the term on Monday 28th 6:45-8:15pm for Short Form students, continuing to 8:45pm for Long Form. Classes will run until 16th December.

Aberdeenshire Autumn Workshops-updated

Caroline's next visit to Aberdeenshire is on 6-8th September. The weekend will follow the usual workshop format. We'll also be going on our annual fungi foray on Monday 9th. Let Caroline or me know if you'd like to come along.

The October workshop is the annual 3 day intensive with Mark at Fetternear Hall 12-14th October, with a session on the evening of the 11th for those studying weapons. The summer workshop in Kingston was interesting and deep work but technique-light, so I'd really encourage any of the Aberdeenshire students, past or present, regardless of level of experience* , to come along on the Saturday afternoon to share this great teaching with a group of other lovely people. Then stay for as many sessions as you can...

Caroline's remaining workshops of 2019 are 8-10th November and 6-8th December. 2020 dates will be scheduled around Oct/Nov time so please let Caroline know if there are weekends you would prefer her to avoid if possible.

* update: subject to having covered key elements of the syllabus - please talk to your instructor for more information and to discuss suitability. New beginners or students with less experience are encouraged to attend the monthly Saturday sessions with Caroline which cover Short Form and related Partnerwork.

Thursdays at Monymusk

Thursday sessions at Monymusk continue 6:30-9:30pm until 11th July then we'll have a break for the summer intensive. Sessions are planned to restart on 8th August. The price for 7 weeks is £20 or £5/3.50 if paying weekly. Here's the rota

Random (not fake) news

Off to bed early as it's a 5.45am start tomorrow to head north and teach in Scotland. Wish me luck with the weather and my sleepy head. I have lots of great stuff to share even just from this last week of classes with Mark. 

It's been really heartening being in touch with some of John's old students since he passed away, in what was otherwise a sad time. What an excellent bunch of people he drew to himself. I feel hugely grateful to have found this lineage.

I'll soon be teaching in Sweden again for the first time in some years. The students who came to the last summer workshop have got together to invite me over on 1-2 April. I am looking forward to it. April Fool's Day is an excellent day to work with this stuff. 

Lastly, if you forgot to order a calendar, I will make a new order on Tuesday, so let me know by then if you'd like one. 

Aberdeenshire Workshops 2017

The 2017 dates for Caroline's workshops in Aberdeenshire are now confirmed. Click on the flyer below to get a larger, printable version.

The format of each weekend will be Weapons on Friday evening, Short Form and associated Partnerwork on Saturdays, Long Form and Dance/Heartwork/Partnerwork on Sundays.

All weapons workshops will be at Fetternear Hall. The venue for other sessions will be published on the blog nearer the time. The price will be £16 (£12 concession) for each 3 hour session. There will be a reduced price for the Sabre beginners sessions.

The Autumn Intensive with Master Mark Raudva will be held 14-16 October at Fetternear Hall, with a weapons workshop on 13th October.

Caroline's final visit of this year will be 16-18th December. More details to follow. All welcome !

Calendars

The first batch have been ordered and will arrive by 22nd, apparently. I will post a batch to Davina for the Scots and the we'll work out how to distribute the London ones!

Calendars

Mark and I have just finished finalising the photos for the calendars, and there were so many great pictures from this year that there will be a few differences between the wall and desk calendars, so we can include them all. Please get your order to me by 16th December, so they will arrive in time for the New Year. Prices will be £4 for desk and £9 for wall.

Workshop photos and Photoshop injuries

I have just cropped and filed over 180 T'ai Chi photos from the summer workshop and other classes, and I am still only up to July's stash. I think I need to get a more ergonomic mouse and hand rest, as my wrist and fingers are sore... any recommendations? Anyway, the photos have brought back wonderful memories and I am posting a few almost random choices below, more coming soon. It'll take me all my spare time this weekend to get the whole lot ready for Mark to choose from for the calendars, but they should be lovely this year.

The 2015 T'ai Chi calendars will get desgined this week, a bit late, as I have been so busy. I am taking orders for desk or wall sizes. I will have the prices soon. Get in touch if you'd like one.

Calendars ordered

I sent the order off for calendars on Sunday and they should arrive before we break for Christmas. The prices are still the same as for the last 5 years: small desk size £5, wall size £8, so this is great news. The first batch will be here soon, but I can order more, so let me know if you'd like one.

Mammoth calendar photo sorting session

I have just spent about 4 hours sorting, cropping and filing all the photos from GR and TCC for this year's calendar. I will give these to Mark tomorrow so he can make the final selection of 13, the rest will appear here on the blog over the next few weeks. All dates for the schools are now set, so I can get the calendars printed next week. I'll be taking orders at class very soon. Thanks to everyone for their photogenic faces and exemplary T'ai Chi postures...

 

 

 

2014 Calendars

Over the next few days if time allows I will be cropping, collating and preparing the photos for this year's calendars and website updates. The spider-hung Halloween-y one above is a definite contender for October. Let me know if you'd like to order a copy of either desk or wall size. All next year's event dates will be on it, and I will post those dates here soon too, as I now have them all to hand.

Calendars

Calendars will be available by mid-December, so let me know over the next few weeks if you'd like any, either wall or desk size. We have wonderful photos this year, especially as Tim took lots of great photos over the summer workshop. I will have prices soon, and they are likely to cost about £8 / £5 as before. I need to wait a few more weeks before setting all the dates as I have to work around a few events, courses, public holidays and so on. If there are any dates you'd like me to avoid, please get in touch. T'ai chi listed dates will include all Great River weekends, Mark's two main workshops: Summer and October, Sunday Staff, Sabre, Sword, Heartwork and Power sessions, February to October, and term starts and ends.

Extra calendars on order

Except for copies already ordered but not yet distributed, I have now sold out of both sizes of the calendars and will making a fresh order next week. Let me know if you would like one. They may cost £1 more due to faster postage costs being a little higher, but possibly not, depending on the order.

Calendars have arrived

I just picked up the calendars from the Post Office and will bring them to class from Tuesday. I will post the ones for Scottish students to Davina tomorrow. They look great! I have a few spare desk ones, so let me know if you want one.
