Yang Style Short Form and Long Form classes in Hackney

New beginner students are welcome to Join the Hackney class in January and Febuary of this year. After that, we shall not be admitting total beginners, those wishing to join after this date will need to book some 121s with one of the instructors or myself, or will need some previous experience. The Short Form group are on their second run through the Form, and we are looking in some depth at the application of each new weekly posture to give our Form real depth and to learn how to work with a partner for real, putting our push hands into practice. Currently the first part of our regular Wednesday classes run as follows, Form run-through after tea is optional, stay after tea if you have the time.
6pm: Warm up set
6.35pm: Salutations or Chi Kung (Qi Gong)
6.40pm: Short Form Form and applications
7.30pm: Partnerwork (sticking, push hands, uprooting, connecting hands, talu, wabu, etc)
8pm: tea
8.15pm: once through the Short Form.

After this the Senior students carry on with Salutations, silk-reeling, open close study, etc., Long Form and Weapons. Senior students may arrive earlier in the evening to join in with the first group at no extra cost.

In September when classes resume after the Summer break, I plan to teach Long Form in the first session, with a full run-through of the Short Form each week first, where there will be time for any questions. Other timings will be unaffected.

New students wishing to join in September and study Yang Style Long Form with us are welcome to get in touch in the mean time regarding suitability and experience. You would need to have learned the Cheng Man-Ching Short Form or the Long Form elsewhere and have at least 18 months' T'ai Chi experience, including some partnerwork. It is not important how long ago this experience is from, the body remembers...
