Thursday class new venue - great news

We have found a wonderful new venue, detailsbelow, for Thursday classes, starting this week 17th May andcontinuing as normal for the rest of term, and then indefinitely. Thecentre is run by some enthusiastic capoeira teachers who also do alot of outreach work in the community, as well as hiring halls out tolocal folks. When I went to look round there was a beginners class running, as well as a kids birthday party in another room. There is agood buzzy atmosphere and a nice feeling to the whole place: not atall run-down, but thankfully not too posh and swanky. Our class timeswill remain the same and will run to the same schedule as before rebeginners, tea break and Dance study. Please pass this info to your classmates who do not go online so often. I will be producing paperflyers tomorrow, a laminated sign for the railings of the old venue, and I will go to Derinton Road from 6.15-7.15pm on Thursday to pointany folks in the right direction. Please come along early at 6.30pmon Thursday evening if you can to give Mark our support in this new venue.

The Capoeira School, 136 Streatham HighRoad, SW16 1BW, entrance on Woodbourne Road. The venue isthe room in the picture, a lovely airy light room with a good floorand one mirrored wall. There are changing rooms, a reception, andtoilets. Reception is usually manned, and the venue has a secureentry so please ring the buzzer marked 'Capoeira' at the door to belet in. Situated in an old telephone exchange, above what is nowBarclays Bank and opposite a large Kwik Fit garage, it is two storiesup, but the stairwell is wide and we could do with the fitnesstraining! There seems to be enough space to lock bikes on thelandings or up at the school.

The door is to left of Barclaysbehind where the street cleaner is working to the left of thispicture.

Lots of info about this building herefor any architecture buffs amongst you.

Transport is very easy: it is 4mins walk from Streatham Hill train station, which is 1 stop fromBalham. Many buses go right outside: from Tooting use 333, 57 or 201and get off at Becmead Avenue stop, 2 minutes walk to the hall. Manyother buses are available: coming from Brixton Tube take 333 towardsTooting and get off at Kingscourt Road, 1 minute walk to the hall.Other buses direct to Streatham Hill train station include: 159 fromPaddington, Trafalgar Square and Kennington; as well as buses fromLiverpool St, King's Cross, Chelsea, Wandsworth and so many otherplaces, all shown at this tflpage. A five minute walk down the very pretty Woodbourne Ave leadsyou to tooting Common where the 315 bus comes past and goes directlydown Bedford Hill to Balham Tube and BR.

There is plenty of free parkingavailable all along Woodbourne Avenue. If you need any furtherassistance re getting to the venue, please get in touch with me.

Lastly, in researching a list of alternativevenues over the last few days I have been in contact with some greatlocal people and seen some lovely spaces. I am now arranging ahandful of places that we can use for student study groups such asfor Power Training, weekend workshops and weapons study, for when weneed a smaller space than St Mary Magdalene, or when it is notavailable due to theatre productions. I will be viewing two placestomorrow. More soon!
