Mark is encouraging all his students except total beginners to get involved with other students in self-run study groups. These groups can meet up with each other whenever they like, will be arranged by one of the group members, and may book Mark for a session when they would like some more group tuition. There is more room for this now as Mark is available on Sundays and Monday evenings too. Groups already up and running are the Short Form study group, arranged by Janet; 2 Power groups, (another to follow for those who couldn't make the proposed dates: Group A 3pm 24th November, Group B 3pm 4th December); a Sword group, which will be arranged by Marli will also meet soon; the Staff group will next meet on Saturday 10th December 1-4pm for a session with Mark at the church hall. There is a proposed advanced silk-reeling group too. All Great River Hackney students are invited to whatever groups are relevant. Get in touch with me for further details, or if there's an area you'd like to arrange a study group for (sabre, push hands, other partnerwork, meditation, standing, san shou, uprooting...). David will be creating a calendar feature for Mark's website where group organisers can post the next meet-up and folks can see what classes, study groups and workshops are on across the school. I will post here when that is online. The Aberdeenshire students have worked like this since I moved back to London almost 5 years ago, and it is a testament to their hard work, and the way self-study enhances learning, that they are still going and making wonderful progress, as well as inspiring new beginners with their good instruction.
For now, you'll be able to find any study group news by putting 'study groups' in the search box of this blog.
